Description

The emerging of technology

We all live in an age inundated with technology. It is undeniable that technology and media play an important role in people’s lives in this modern society. In fact, you are probably reading this on a computer, smartphone or tablet, rather than a hardcopy printout.

The Inspiration: A fusion of online and real worlds

Virtual People #2 is an oil painting presented in a frenzy of swift and powerful brush strokes, that demonstrates Yasamut’s concept of always being connected online. The title itself is already related to technology. This is to show the transformation of his emotions and feelings as a result of his obsession with online media.

This work blended an online world with the real world. It displays colorful modes, pixelated imagery and significant correlation with today’s generation. The face of this portrait cannot be seen clearly as they are pixelated and blurred. Facial features remain indistinguishable although they look vaguely human.

It represents a virtual sphere that reflects the emotions and feelings of an increasing number of people who are gravitating towards the virtual realm rather than the real world itself. The point is those around us in the physical world cannot tickle our fancy the way the denizens of the virtual world can.

The virtual experience is like a retreat from reality into a world of delusion in which it’s easy to forget our appropriate real-world role as human beings.

Get to know Sawawut Yasamut

Sawawut Yasamut is an expressionist artist bursting with exuberant brushstrokes and vibrant colors reflecting his fast-paced demeanor. Yasamut counts himself as lucky to know what he has always wanted to do with the support of his father.

Yasamut holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Painting graduating from Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi and worked as a teacher for 6 consecutive years before earning his Master’s Degree in Applied Arts from the Faculty of Decorative Arts, Silpakorn University. His experiences and studies led him to successfully participate in 40 group exhibitions and 5 solo exhibitions.

He draws inspiration from his surroundings. Some of his best-produced work was inspired from creatures in nature such as the painting of an abstract butterfly. Inspiration comes easily to Yasamut. His vision came from the understanding that a butterfly doesn’t have to fly thousands of kilometers to find its happiness, unlike the hawk or eagle. The butterfly’s simple happiness can be found in the little things in life such as having a loving family.

As a young artist, Yasamut has always believed in the power of social media and the Internet. He understood that the lack of exposure made it difficult for artists to showcase their work to the world. By all means, the increase of social media within today’s world has given these artists the opportunity to channel their energy to various platforms with to attract more viewers and buyers.
