Theerapong Kamolpus

— The puppet of Impressionism

“Humans are the puppet of time.” Theerapong explained his ideation when it comes to the art world. He has seen a lot throughout almost two decades in the urgent capital. That’s why agitated atmospheres influenced his dynamic contemporary art.

Being a Bangkokian by birth equates to the modern Thainess perceiver. He developed his art sentiments from the beginning phase through surroundings like streets and lights in town, departing from the traditional Thai style.

“Every moment, every place I’ve been, it is aesthetics.”

Unconsciously under haste conditions or chaos in life, Theerapong sees the beauty of urban society at present moment, even when how busy or hustling it is. He still has his subjective beauty through the painting that consists of female shapes that symbolize the beauty as well as the atmosphere of the city society, lights, and colors.

“Pak Khlong Talat is a well-known flower market. When I first visited this place, the first thing I felt was the smell of flowers that seemed to come straight out of a fairy tale. The feeling there was very different from everyday life in the crowded capital city. Smell of smoke, garbage, and polluted water.” He told a story behind one of his works. The fundamental inspiration of his painting is always the surroundings.”

“I developed my portrait painting because of John Singer Sargent.” He talked about his idol. The American expatriate artist, considered the leading portrait painter of his generation, has majorly dominated Theerapong’s style in portrait painting. “I love portrait painting; it makes me feel real life.” He stated.

Some of Theerapong’s portrait paintings highlight his preference in contemporary Thai art and impressionism.

Six years straight in the most famous art school, Silpakorn University, Theerapong shaped his skills unstoppably with the concentration in Painting Sculpture and Graphic Arts. Resulting in him holding both Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree in Fine Arts.

Live and pursue his career as an impressionism artist in Nakhon Pathom, Theerapong finds beauty in daily life which many people may have overlooked the aesthetics at those moments; nevertheless, he has brought different environmental elements of one single period of time such as light, hues, and female’s figure which he recognizes its aesthetics. Therefore, the topic is always changing depending on the state of emotions and experiences.

Presenting to the audiences the beauty in everyday life through female gender which is a symbol of beauty and liveliness from a period of time according to his perception through the painting. The form of the painting artwork is similar to impressionism artwork which he is greatly fascinated in expressions. He has passed on the story of light and colors through the visible brush strokes and the shape of painting.
