Patt Unhanandana

— Modern Thai Artist

Patt Unhanandana was born in Chiang Rai and received a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts and Printmaking from Chiang Mai University. As a city that holds a heavy focus on art, creativity lies within her blood. Being an individual from the North of Thailand, art consumption is well expected because of the creative locations established all over Chiang Mai. Her inspiration is drawn from printing and different textures that result from printing along with its heavy impact on emotions.

One of the artist’s turning points was her fathers work, which she had seen since childhood. Her father graduated from an art university and had works of her own, which impressed her and drove her to be like her father, even if she isn’t a professional artist and is currently an office worker.

Currently, she is an art home tutor and opens classes called ‘Silpa Mee Dee’ at Chiang Rai.

Concept

The artist’s concept is abstract and semi abstract, supported by illustration using transfer, mono print and mixed media techniques. Unhanandana sees this as a way of the combination of many random pieces that surround her, forming a collage form of mixed media. This allows the artist to convey oneness and that although we are individual particles, we are connected one way or another.

In terms of painting, Unhanandana prefers to work with water color because of the control one has over the paint. Due to its flexibility and distinctive features, her technique is bound to produce natural and effortless results through the lightweight flow of the paint.

Technique

“Personally, I love collage making because of the way it all blends together in the end. I love the fun of anticipating the results!” The artist states passionately. This technique makes her feel most like herself, which perfectly captures her authenticity and her true love for the creative industry.
