Jirasak Tareyachai

— Modern Thai Artist

The start of Jirasak Tareyachai’s passion for art is his interest in Thai Fine Art, which he views as a generational piece of work and has been recreated to this day. Thai Art has grown continuously over the years — it now not only consists of different art styles but is inspired by a varying mode of major concepts seen in the country surroundings. Religious beliefs, lifestyle and daily routine all partake in the elements that form the art pieces. This adds on to the meaning and beauty of the painting – to have a message to communicate from underneath the creativity is the important factor for the artist. By using Thai arts as a form of action to create an expression of intense movement as a case study, it shows the power of the superposition of shapes. There are both conflicts and harmony in the power of shapes in Thai contemporary art.Thai architecture received beautiful arts and culture from the past. Even when they began to decay over time, the shapes still retain their beauty and power.

Background

The turning point for Jirasak Tareyachai is the pressure from the education system that makes us feel as if everyone has to understand in the same system. “Many people would ask me why I chose a career with such a small future, I knew myself since then”, He explains. “Ten years ago, my family wouldn’t approve of the subject and even discouraged me from liking art. It came to a point where they would refuse to send me to school in fear of him choosing art as a profession. I dealt with this problem seriously to prove them wrong and that I can live with art”.

The artist’s preferred style is texture painting. Born with a passion for both painting and sculpture, he can’t quite decide what he wants, so he chose both. This was the beginning of surface painting for him as an artist. When it comes to his favorite painting he doesn’t have one. “None of the pictures make me feel more or less proud. Every picture is a memory of that time. Maybe a little or small amount of happiness back then wasn’t worth much. But it’s also a reminder that we don’t give up on happiness. It might seem like an easy thing, but it’s actually very difficult to do,” He elaborates.
